Car Wax and Polish

Car polish is a product that helps to eliminate surface scratches, swirls, oxidation, dirt, and other minor imperfections while polishing. Polish should be used before wax, as it helps to restore automotive paint that has lost its shine due to oxidation. Paint protection is paramount in our harsh New Zealand weather conditions.

Although car’s manufactured today come out with sophisticated paint protection, these layers deteriorate over time. We recommend that vehicles are polished on a regular basis to maintain these layers of protection.

How regular these services depend on how much time the vehicle spends outside. Mount Roskill Collision Centre uses polishes and waxes that are specially formulated to aid in protection from our harsh UV ladened New Zealand sun.

What happens when we polish your car?

When polishing bodywork, you are literally removing (at a microscopic level) layers of paint. Because of this, and because most vehicle body panels are not manufactured flat it requires a skilled technician to do the task safely and without damage to the paint work, or to the rest of the car.

With a high-speed buff and an aggressive cutting compound, it would take a mere few seconds to ‘cut’ through the paint – which could lead to costly re-painting of the panel/s.

Ceramic Car Paint Protection

Here at Mount Roskill Collision Centre we go the extra step and offer a ceramic scratch preventative wax coating to be applied if the vehicle has had it applied from the dealership. The polishing product we carry further protects the paint from any scratches and scuffs that may occur from your day to day travels.

Car Scratch Removal and Repair

As our cars follow us everywhere we go, it is inevitable that scratches and scuffs end up on our beloved car, here our team of professional technicians will be able to polish and remove any car scratch that has not broken through the original paint work with a cut and polish.

We start with sanding the panel down with a fine sandpaper to remove the scratches. Once all the scratches and imperfections have been removed, we start with a coarse cutting compound, we then move onto a finer compound.

For dark colours we then use a glazing compound to remove any swirl marks created by the cut. Finally, we apply two liberal coats of wax to give the paint work the maximum amount of protection possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Car polishing is the process of using a machine or hand-held device to smooth and buff the surface of a vehicle’s paint. The goal of polishing is to remove imperfections, such as scratches and swirl marks, from the paint and to restore the surface to a high level of shine.

Polishing can be done by hand or with a machine, such as a dual action polisher or rotary polisher. Hand polishing is typically done with a small, circular polishing pad and a hand-held tool, such as a circular polisher or a drill with a polishing attachment. Machine polishing is typically done with a larger, more powerful machine that can cover a wider area of the vehicle more quickly.

Polishing can be done on any type of vehicle, including cars, trucks, and motorcycles. It is an important part of maintaining the appearance and value of a vehicle, and it is often done as part of a larger detailing process.

The frequency of car polishing significantly depends on several factors, including the age and condition of the car, the climate in which the vehicle is driven, and the level of protection applied to the paint.

If your car is new or has recently been polished, it may not need to be polished again for several months or even a year, depending on the level of protection applied and the conditions in which the vehicle is driven. If your vehicle is older or has not been polished in a while, it may benefit from more frequent polishing.

In general, it is a good idea to polish your vehicle at least once a year to remove any surface imperfections and to restore the shine to the paint. If you live in a climate with harsh weather conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, or if you drive your vehicle frequently, you may need to polish more often to maintain the appearance of the paint.

The duration of a car polish depends on a number of factors, including the quality of the tools used, the professionals doing it, the environment in which the car is kept in, and how frequently the car is used and washed. A high-quality automobile polish may normally last anywhere from 3 to 6 months. To preserve the finest possible finish, wash your car on a regular basis and avoid harsh climatic conditions, such as strong sun exposure or salty air near the coast, which can destroy the shine faster. Applying a top quality auto wax after polishing may also assist extend the life of the polish by offering an extra layer of protection.

Yes, you may put car polish on epoxy resin. Car polish is normally designed to eliminate small surface flaws and restore gloss, but it can also be good for epoxy resin surfaces. It is crucial to realise, however, that not all vehicle polishes are created equal. Always use a high-quality, non-abrasive automobile polish and test it first on a tiny, inconspicuous area of the epoxy resin to guarantee no damage or undesirable changes occur. For optimal results, always follow the polish manufacturer’s guidelines.
